The contract forms part of a large-scale modernisation project that elka has been consistently driving forward since 2022 and in the course of which the company will invest a high double-digit million sum in its chipboard plant. The construction of a fully automatic cross-cut saw and the refurbishment of the chipping, screening and gluing processes have already been completed. This represents the largest investment in the company\u2019s 120-year history.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the new continuous DIEFFENBACHER plant featuring the CPS+ press system, elka is replacing three single-deck presses, which were also supplied by DIEFFENBACHER in 1968, 1973 and 1990.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the new chipboard line, DIEFFENBACHER is now supplying all key components to elka, from the new Span forming station \u2013 designed to reduce raw material and energy consumption \u2013 through to the final production stage. The scope of supply also includes a press exhaust air cleaning system with a direct-current scrubber and the EVORIS digitalisation platform. In addition, elka has ordered a 20 MW energy plant from DIEFFENBACHER for flexible and sustainable energy generation from fresh biomass and waste wood, which will provide the required thermal output for the press line and the chip dryers.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith this investment in the new DIEFFENBACHER plant, we are sending a clear signal for the future of timber construction,\u201d states elka Managing Director Larissa Kuntz. \u201cDespite the ongoing challenges in the construction industry, we are convinced that sustainable timber construction will continue to grow in importance in the long term, particularly against the backdrop of the urgent need for housing and the demand for resource-efficient construction methods. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the new plant, we are consistently strengthening our position as a specialist supplier. Our aim is to continue offering high-quality chipboard made from regional fresh timber and to provide the widest possible range of sizes for our timber construction boards esb (elka-strong-board) and esb Plus. This ensures our customers receive exactly the dimensions they need \u2013 manufactured by a medium-sized company on an equal footing. The range covers a very broad spectrum of P1 to P6 boards in thicknesses from 12 to 50 mm and a bulk density range (depending on board thickness) between 500 and 720 kg\/m\u00b3. All chipboards are produced without the use of waste wood and are therefore not only low-emission but also easy to work with.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith this flexible plant \u2013 which is relatively small by the standards of the wood-based materials industry \u2013 we are also responding to the requirements of future forest restructuring. It enables many forest owners to recycle their wood into high-quality materials and to secure the CO\u2082 stored within it in products for the long term. KI-gest\u00fctzte Anwendungen wie EVORIS helfen uns zudem, die Anlage ressourcenschonend weiterzuentwickeln und effizient zu betreiben\u201c, erg\u00e4nzt er.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">elka was awarded the German Sustainability Prize in 2025 and recognised by the expert jury as a \u201cpioneer of transformation in the German economy\u201d and an \u201cexemplary company\u201d. \u201cWith the latest technology from DIEFFENBACHER, we are manufacturing our products in a more material- and energy-efficient manner whilst simultaneously increasing the added value for our customers,\u201d explains Tobias Schmucker, Technical Director at elka. \u201cThis reduces the carbon footprint of our products by around 40%. AI-supported applications such as EVORIS also help us to further develop the plant in a resource-efficient manner and operate it efficiently,\u201d he adds. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Installation of the new production plant will begin in Morbach around the turn of the year 2026\/2027. The chipboard line is scheduled to go into operation in the summer of 2027, followed by the energy plant towards the end of 2027. <\/p>\n\n<p
