The elka variety
elka-Holzwerke GmbH is a medium-sized wood processing company with over 118 years of wood experience. As a family business with 220 employees, we have been producing wood-based materials and sawn timber at our integrated site in Morbach in the Hunsrück region for four generations. In a unique and exemplary value chain, the logs we use are processed into useful timber products for the construction industry.

SHI product passport – the basis for healthy and subsidizable construction
The esb-Plus board and the vita natural wood board each have an SHI product passport from the Sentinel Holding Institute. This provides us with tested and transparent information on the ingredients, emissions and health quality of our products.
The SHI product passport bundles all relevant data for healthy and sustainable building in one central location. It supports architects, planners and building owners in the selection of low-emission building materials and serves as a recognized verification basis for sustainable building concepts.
The SHI product passport is a central building block for the QNG requirements (Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings). It provides the necessary, tested product information to demonstrate the criteria for low-emission and healthy living construction – an essential prerequisite for the state new-build and subsidy framework. The SHI product passport therefore makes the planning of QNG-compliant and eligible buildings considerably easier.
The product passport not only looks at technical parameters, but also focuses specifically on health compatibility, low emissions and transparency. The assessment is carried out independently and according to clearly defined criteria – for maximum safety in planning, promotion and use.

Funding from the European Union
Part of our natural wood panel production was supported by an EU funding program in 2019/2020:
- Program: IWB-EFRE Rhineland-Palatinate 2014 – 2020
- Funding program to increase energy and resource efficiency in commercial enterprises P3-SZ5-1
- Brief description of the project: Replacement of an inefficient wood saw with a state-of-the-art sawing system with a smaller kerf. This significantly increases the timber yield.
