Sustainable purchasing behavior is playing an increasingly important role for consumers. 81% stated that they pay attention to sustainability when shopping (2019). This is the finding of a study by the auditing firm KPMG and the IFH Cologne: “Sustainability is part of our everyday reality and will fundamentally change the economy and society. Because people have understood that there are no unlimited resources on this planet…,” explains Stephan Fetsch, KPMG Partner and Head of Consumer Goods.
Low-emission wood-based materials – tested and certified
For decades, elka-Holzwerke has been producing wood-based materials with verified low emissions and a high quality standard. Our low-emission product lines are the spruce fresh-wood boards esb Standard and esb PLUS and the vita natural wood panel; esb PLUS reaches formaldehyde levels below 0.03 ppm. As wood-based materials, the boards can be dismantled by type and passed on for material recovery. All products are manufactured with an easy-to-process MUF adhesive free of isocyanates. esb PLUS and vita reach formaldehyde levels of at most 0.03 ppm (declarations of performance DoP-PB-52 and DoP-SWP-21). Binders are urea and melamine-urea formaldehyde resins; isocyanates (MDI) are not used. Blue Angel
he Blue Angel is the environmental label of the German federal government. Its criteria are developed by the German Environment Agency and adopted by the independent Environmental Label Jury; they are publicly available. The esb PLUS P5 chipboard and the elka VITA natural wood panel carry the Blue Angel for low-emission wood-based materials. Only products that demonstrably meet the requirements of the award criteria for emissions and ingredients receive the label. Award criteria DE-UZ 76: the esb PLUS P5 chipboard in thicknesses of 9–30 mm (label use agreement no. 30228) and the elka VITA three-layer solid wood panel in spruce, qualities AB/B and B/C, 15–50 mm (no. 30227).

DGNB Navigator
Building products make a significant contribution to the sustainability of a building. Through their environmental impact, such as pollutant emissions or energy consumption during manufacturing and operation, their life cycle costs, which are significantly influenced by inspection and maintenance costs or cleaning efforts, and their impact on user comfort, they contribute significantly to the overall performance of a building.
